In cooperation with Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, The Shire of Baile na Scolairi is hosting a viewing at our event of the full-scale fine art Heritage Edition copy of the Gospels book from the St. John’s Bible. Get up close and personal with gorgeous calligraphy and illumination!

St. John’s Abbey and University in Minnesota is loaning out the Heritage Edition books to IWU for the year 2018. The St. John’s Bible is the first illuminated, handwritten Bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in 500 years. It was written and painted on vellum with traditional medieval tools, paints and inks, gold and silver leaf, all incorporated into newly created 21st Century art. The Bible is a multi-artist project headed by Donald Jackson, Senior Scribe to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Crown Office.

Rumors of a large pink bunny wreaking havoc can neither be confirmed nor denied.
